Revisiting the Book of John - Part I

The Book of John stands apart from other three gospels, written nearly 30 years after Matthew, Mark and Luke. It is addressed to all the people of the world and reveals the glorious truth about Jesus Christ.

The Book reveals much about the character of Christ, I want a re-study of these scriptures and find out more about how Jesus deals with everyday life, the selected scriptures are those that somehow has a personal impact in my life.

“You believed in me because I told you I saw you under the fig tree.  But you will see greater things than that!”  John 1:50

Faith is not something that believes only when what we expects happen but faith comes even before that, even beyond the silence, the unanswered prayer, faith is firmly believing that God will do things more than what we hope and expect for.

“My strong love for your Temple completely controls me.” John 2:17b

Jesus love for His Father completely controls him, he is indignant to those actions and ways that is improper to the holiness of God, he is not after the praises and acceptance of man but rather he always chose to do things that will please God.

For God so loved the world so much that He gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes In Him may not be lost, but have eternal life.  John 3:16

The ultimate sacrifice of love is the one that Jesus’ was done on the cross, it is what God did to allow his only Son suffer the kind of death that is totally unjust to the Son of Man. This expression of love humbles my heart to the core, there will be no greater manifestation of love other than this. The message of this ultimate sacrifice should remind us to always to remain in God all days of our lives, remaining is not just believing in God but it goes beyond going to church, being nice to people, helping the poor etc., it is pushing yourself to live a life that is worthy of that sacrifice. It doesn't mean being perfect, it means persevering, striving to live a life that is obedient to His will.

The time is coming when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The time is now here. And these are the kind of worshippers the Father wants. God is spirit. Those who worship God must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24

Real worship is the one that truly comes from the heart, a heart that is humble and sober before God. Worshipping God means striving to be right before Him. God is not concerned with where you go or the places you choose so you can worship him, what matter most to Him is a heart that is completely surrendered to His will.

Jesus said to him, “You people must see signs and miracles before you will believe in me.”
John 4:48

Does our faith in God come only after we have received what we ask for? Do we always look for the proof of God’s provision or blessings before we make an effort to do what pleases God and to trust Him completely with our lives? If God is not a giver of blessings of signs and of miracles, will we still believe in Him? Again If, will we still make the effort to trust Him fully?
