Echoes of A Sermon

Fear or Faith? Which of which described the real status of your heart right now?

It feels like Jesus came down from heaven to preach a wonderful, heart moving message in the church today.  It’s always been inspiring to see and listened once again Kuya Eric Sismaet preached the Word of God.

The stories of  Jairus and the Bleeding Woman in Matthew 5:21-43, depicts how their faith move them to come to Jesus despite the oppositions.

Jairus upon learning that his daughter is very ill, still came to Jesus despite the fact that many had told him to not bother Jesus anymore with his request to heal his daughter, but moved by his faith he believed that Jesus can do something to heal his daughter. Jairus was reassured by what Jesus said “Don’t be afraid just believed.”

The bleeding woman touch Jesus cloak, despite the crowd that surrounds Him, her faith didn’t go unnoticed..that it almost took Jesus power to be gone out from him. The preacher in his own words said “May humawak kay Jesus na matindi ang paniniwala.” The Bleeding Woman’s fear was overcome by her faith and because of her faith she was healed.

Jairus and the Bleeding Woman’s life was tested, yet their struggles strengthen them to keep looking up to Jesus. In the words of the preacher  “Struggles are important to make us see God more, to make us realize our need for God.”

In Genesis 12:1-5, God commanded Abraham to leave his country, his people and his father’s household and go to an uncertain place which was only labeled by God as a Promised Land.  Imagined an old man like Abraham who was 75 years old when God commanded him then, Abraham has the option to complain to God , he may chose to give God a hundreds of excuses not to listen to what God said, but Abraham have to hear His voice, He listened to God without questions.

Our life will be challenged, it will be tested, sometimes God takes away everything  which means taking us away from our comfort zones and yet God promised that He will be with us always.  Our challenges, will help us to go deeper in our faith and our convictions.

In Hebrews 11:8-10 God doesn’t need a perfect faith, a huge faith for us to go back to him, in fact in the Bible he illustrated a mustard kind of faith. It is a simple faith that trust God.  Trusting his goodness to give to us what is best.  It is only by faith that Abraham obeyed and believed God.  It is by faith that Abraham heeded to God’s call, he lived out to the purpose of God in His life.

Faith is something that enable us to do untiringly what God had called us to do, when we lose our purpose on why we do things especially those things that matters to God we end up having an attitude of apathy.  Kuya Eric quoted what his dear wife said “the absence of purpose is worst than satisfying your own self.”

In Genesis 12:4 we can see how Abraham obeyed God wholeheartedly, God didn’t explain the reasons why He commanded Abraham to leave his country, and yet Abraham obeyed God. Obey God even we didn’t know the reasons why He say so, obey God even when it means making decisions that will hurt us. Abraham example should inspire us that obeying God is the very reason of our faithfulness and love for Him.
